Completed in 2008, the project involved the construction of a new three level Library and Childcare Centre for the City of Canada Bay Council.

Delivered by fixed lump sum after competitive tender, the building comprises an Occasional and Long Day Care Centre with external children’s play areas on the Ground Floor. A new library is housed on Levels 2 and 3 along with a multi-function room used for training purposes as well as conferences. Administration offices, study rooms, a small cafe and external car park complete the scope undertaken by Kane Constructions.

The building has been designed to incorporate natural ventilation with return air supplied via uniquely designed tubes that fixed to the north facade as well as an underground tunnel funnelling natural air through two large ducts positioned externally.

The structure comprises post tensioned concrete slabs and structural steel framing whilst the fade incorporates a glazed curtain wall and precast concrete panels. Interiors include perforated plywood ceiling panels along with carpet, vinyl and timber floors. A vibrant colour scheme consisting of blues, greens purples and pink has been adopted.

The $10m facility provides two new childcare centres for the local community of Concord as well an environmentally friendly library.
