Kane Constructions were engaged under a Lump Sum contract for the construction of a new residential aged care building and refurbishment of existing facility at the TriCare Residential Aged Care Facility, located at Upper Mt Gravatt.
The works included:
- Construction of a new basement carpark
- Extension of the existing residential aged care building to include 20 additional private rooms
- A new community hub facility, which boasts a hair salon, function room and sky garden.
Additionally, Kane undertook the refurbishment of 60 existing private rooms.
Kane successfully collaborated alongside TriCare to connect the new residential aged care facility into the existing and operational building. Given the project was completed in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, it proved a challenging time given the strict lockdown of all aged care facilities. The Kane team implemented strategies to stage the refurbishment to allow external access only to the facility. This strategy was a major benefit to the client as Kane were able to install solid hoarding and completely isolate the works from the operational facility – in turn reducing resident interaction, and providing improved hygiene and dust control.
The proximity of the new building to adjacent roadways/existing facility meant that the on-site tower crane was required to be positioned as to not interrupt construction, whilst still being able to pick up loads from either side of the building.
The project reached Practical Completion in mid-2020.
