$130m of new Affordable Homes for Melbourne

4th July, 2011

Kane Constructions has been awarded three contracts with a total value of $130 million by the Department of Human Services to design and construct high density affordable housing in Melbourne.

The projects are:
- Richmond Estate Redevelopment, 207 units, $65 million
- Prahran Estate Redevelopment, 188 units, $50 million
- DHS Altona, 70 units, $15 million

The project will deliver high quality, contemporary housing by multi-award winning architects who specialise in environmental commercial and residential design.

While designed to suit the needs of low-income tenants, the quality and amenity of the units is comparable with to other private apartments being built in the area.

The units will better integrate public housing with the surrounding streetscape, partially screening the existing high-rise, while preserving existing light and views. New landscaping will provide secure and attractive outdoor spaces.

Works have commenced at all sites with  projects to be completed in 2012 and 2013.
