$25m ED for Dandenong Hospital

25th August, 2009

Turning of the sod signals the commencement of construction on the $25 million redevelopment of Dandenong Hospital’s emergency department.

Health Minister Daniel Andrews today turned the first sod on the site of the new facility and declared it would provide first class services for tens of thousands of patients every year.

“More than 47,600 patients attended the Dandenong Hospital’s emergency department last year, making it one of the busiest in the state."

The new and expanded facility will increase the number of patient treatment spaces in the emergency department from 35 to 55, providing separate facilities for adults and children seeking treatment. It will also improve the overall amenity for patients with more single rooms, making hospital visits more comfortable for everyone.

Kane Constructions was awarded the lump sum contract in June 2009 having previously completed the Geelong Hospital Emergency Department (2008) and the Monash Medical Centre Emergency Department Expansion (2006).
