Victorians with a mental illness will benefit from the largest Victorian mental health development in 50 years.
Mental Health Minister Lisa Neville and State Member for Dandenong, the Honorable John Pandazopoulos MP today turned the first sod on the project at the Dandenong Hospital.
Ms Neville said the new state-of-the art facility 'would increase the quality of care Victorians receive and address growing demand for mental health services in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne'.
Kane Constructions has been awarded the contract to build a once-in-a-generation capital works project that will deliver vital new services and will address current and future demand for inpatient and community based care. The $69 million project includes a 120-bed mental health inpatient facility, new administration, research and training facility along with site wide infrastructure upgrades.
Completion is scheduled for early 2012.
Kane Constructions is also building the new Emergency Department at Dandenong Hospital with works due for completion in mid-2011.
