La Trobe University Physical Sciences 3 Adaptive Reuse

Kane Constructions has been appointed by La Trobe University to deliver the $18 million Physical Sciences (PS3) project. 

A space analysis conducted as part of the 10 year Capital Development Plan identified a shortage of flat floor teaching spaces. The PS3 project is an infrastructure response to accommodate the University's target growth by creating new teaching spaces through adaptive reuse of existing buildings.

The project objectives are:
- To create additional centrally managed teaching spaces to accommodate University's Future Ready: Strategic Plan 2013-2017 projected target growth.

- To enable the decongestion program of existing teaching spaces for upgrade across the Melbourne Campus

- To create new and modern teaching spaces that meets industry benchmark and space standards- To create new teaching spaces that enable the delivery of flexible learning

- To remove backlog maintenance liabilities
The scope of the PS3 refurbishment comprises the creation of 2380m2 flat floor teaching spaces, two tiered lecture theatres and informal learning commons.  

The scope also includes the upgrade of existing and provision of new toilet facilities.

Kane is working with Johnstaff Projects and Spowers architects to deliver this exciting project.
