Prime Minister Kevin Rudd this morning visited Kane Constructions to check on progress at the GP Super Clinic currently under construction in Belmont, Geelong.
The $7m facility will accommodate general practice doctors, practice nurses, a pharmacy, a pathology collection as well as privately practicing allied health professionals including a podiatrist, a psychologist, a dietician, a physiotherapist, a diabetes educator and an exercise physiologist.
The clinic will also have a strong focus on education and training for students and graduates from Deakin University, creating an innovative model of teaching, training and research within a purpose built primary care facility.
The GP Super Clinic was designed by Billard Leece Architects, with whom Kane has previously delivered a number of projects including the Royal Children's Hospital, Grand Hyatt, St John of God Medical Suites, Knox Private Hospital and the Barwon Health Teacher Training & Resource Facility.
Client side project management services are being provided by Aurecon. Kane Constructions and Aurecon have worked together on a number healthcare facilities including the $25m Emergency Department at Geelong Hospital and most recently the $18m Teacher Training & Resource Facility for Barwon Health and Deakin University.
Works at the GP Super Clinic commenced late in 2009 and the project is well on track for completion in July this year.
