Just metres from where Senator Claire Moore and Ochre Health chairman Dr Ross Lamplugh turned the sod for the Sunshine Coast GP Super Clinic, the building was already taking shape.
The 3000sq m clinic at Sippy Downs is 20% complete, ready for the slab of the second floor to be laid, before the roof goes on in a month. Kane Constructions commenced the $6.8 million project in May.
Ochre Health CEO John Burns said the new centre, to open in March, would be the hub of the four-site network.
The clinic will house an integrated primary care medical centre, pharmacy, x-ray and pathology.
"It's also a big training site, so there's a substantial part of the building which is dedicated to student services and training facilities," he said.
Mr Burns said Ochre Health would also provide services into the hinterland through sites at Maleny, Montville and Eumundi.
"Maleny is about trying to get some visiting specialists and visiting allied health into the hinterland. That's one area we think can be improved," he said.
Ochre Health will work with the University of the Sunshine Coast and is looking to expand partnerships to include Sunshine Coast TAFE.
Kane completed the Geelong GP Super Clinic - known as Kardinia Health - in 2010 and is about commence the Hume GP Super Clinic – both in Victoria.
