Minister for Health, the Honourable Daniel Andrews was joined by two-year-old Brayden Kotsch and his family at the turning of the sod ceremony for the new Special Care Nursery at Casey Hospital.
Kane Constructions was awarded the $4m lump sum contract in late 2009.
Works will see the Special Care Nursery expand from 6 to 20 neonatal cots and will enable Casey Hospital to provide up to an estimated 1,000 additional births per annum increasing the annual number of births from 1,500 to 2,500.

Following completion of the project in late 2010, the facility will have transformed from a Low Level 2 to a High Level 2 Nursery.
