Work commences at Star of the Sea

22nd February, 2010

Kane Constructions has commenced work on a new Performing Arts Centre at Star of the Sea College in Victoria.

The photos above show the completed demolition of existing buildings to make way for the new facility.

The project involves construction of a four level building comprising:

- Basement with music rooms and drama multipurpose area
- Ground Level with tutorial rooms, offices and link to Sebastian Hall
- First Floor with 455 seat theatre, stage, storage areas and pedestrian perimeter link
- Mezzanine level with control room

The Kane Team is headed up by Project Manager Monica Whyte - a Star of the Sea 'old girl' - who claims: 'it feels like only yesterday....!'

Monica, along with Sam Birdseye, Contract Administrator and Site Manager Doug Putt, took possession of site in January with works due to be completed prior to Term 1, 2011.

The $10m facility has been designed by Architectus and incorporates a number of ESD principles. Images of the completed building are displayed below.
