In January 2020, Kane Queensland was awarded the $4 million Design & Construct contract to deliver the Morningside State School, New Learning Centre project with the Department of Education.
The Stage 1 scope of works will include the construction of a new three storey building consisting of six general learning areas (GLAs), musical learning and practice spaces, general amenities, and storage across two levels with an open undercroft, which will be a futureproofing feature.
The existing heritage stone retaining wall and stairs situated in the new undercroft will be protected during construction.
Upon completion of the new building, the Stage 2 works will involve the demolition of three existing buildings to make way for a new landscaped courtyard space that will be known as the ‘Heart of the School’.
All works are being carried out within an operational school environment, and will reach Practical Completion by late 2020.
