Stromlo Leisure Centre is a $36.6 million facility located in the Australian Capital Territory at Stromlo Forest Park and will service more than 100,000 people in Weston Creek, Woden and the Molonglo Valley.
The centre is due to officially open on 15 August and comprises of an eight lane 50 metre lap swimming pool, twenty metre program and warm water multipurpose pool, exercise and rehabilitation area, front out house, amenities, plant and store rooms, circulation areas, splash park and gymnasium. The new state of the art facility currently wears the title of the longest spanning glulam timber beams in the southern hemisphere and will provide a connection between the building and the natural landscape of the Stromlo Forrest Park.
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Yvette Berry said “The Stromlo Leisure Centre offers the community another place for family and friends to come together and aquatic programs to keep Canberrans active and safe in the water… Importantly, the centre will provide ongoing employment opportunities with more than 80 jobs created to operate the centre.”
Having employed over 1,100 construction workers and 80 full time permanent staff to run the facility, Stromlo Leisure Centre is a fantastic addition to the ever evolving Mt Stromlo recreation park.
