In October 2021, St Vincent's Private Hospital awarded Kane Constructions the early works package to deliver the St Vincent's Private Hospital Fitzroy Expansion.
St Vincent’s Private Hospital Stage 1 Early Works involves the complete demolition of three buildings at 71 & 75 Victoria Parade, and 5 Brunswick Street. The project scope includes heritage façade retention and two levels of basement retention works. These buildings share a common site with the heritage-listed East Hill Hotel.
The early works are in preparation for the state-of-the-art, $183 million main works transformation. Stage 1 & 2 of the main works project includes the delivery of a new 12-storey building with a connecting link bridge to the existing hospital. The works also entail major refurbishment to eight levels of the existing hospital as well as heritage restoration works to East Hill Hotel and Edensor House.
St Vincent’s Private Hospital Fitzroy is designed to increase opportunities for sharing research and clinical expertise with both St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and the soon-to-be-built Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD) – all located on the same Fitzroy campus – allowing for more integrated treatment and care.
Highlights of the main works design include four state-of-the-art operating theatres, all equipped to deliver the latest techniques in robotic and image-guided surgery; a new Intensive Care Unit; new radiology services, which will support single-visit diagnosis, assessment and treatment; new birthing suites and a new Special Care Nursery; and a brand new virtual care hub, to assist in providing high quality at-home services.
The Fitzroy Private project is set to create around 1,600 construction jobs in its first year and close to 2,000 jobs over the life of the build.
“Kane Constructions is thrilled to be partnering with St Vincent’s Private Hospital to deliver the early works package for the Fitzroy expansion. St Vincent’s are leading the way in cutting edge research, patient care and experience, and Kane is excited to be delivering the foundations of what will become an incredible redevelopment.” Stephen Theisz, Director, Kane Constructions
The pandemic has influenced the design of the main works package, with project features including an ICU featuring air-conditioning that can we switched into ‘pandemic mode’ to provide a safer environment for both patients and staff in the event that becomes necessary.
The early works package is expected to reach Practical Completion in October 2022.
