Last Friday the Kane Constructions project team were joined by Don Paproth, Chair, Bass Coast Health, Jan Child, CEO, Bass Coast Health, Member for Bass, Jordan Crugnale and Trent Burke, Executive Director, Victorian Health Building Authority to celebrate the topping out ceremony on the Wonthaggi Hospital Expansion Project.
A flowering gum tree was placed on the roof to signify this important milestone and was planted in a new car park landscape. The team heard from Don, Jan, Trent and the Member for Bass about how this significant economic contribution will assist in meeting the growing demand for healthcare services in the Bass Coast Shire, and the positive impact the redevelopment will have on both the patients and staff of the hospital.
The Wonthaggi Hospital Expansion will deliver a new 32-bed inpatient ward, add 18 emergency department treatment spaces, three new operating theatres, a day procedure room with associated recovery wards and Central Sterilising Department (CSSD).
The expansion offers a significant contribution to the local community with the capacity to treat an additional 26,000 patients each year. Kane has consulted extensively with the local Bass Coast community and the wider Gippsland region during the delivery. To date, Kane has engaged 19 local subcontractors and suppliers and over 140 regional workers to contribute to the delivery of the project.
Kane is a compact member and supporter of Grow Gippsland and actively engage in procurement opportunities to benefit the wider region.
As the workforce increases on-site and the façade and fit-out start to take shape, the project is on track for completion in early 2023.
