Earlier this month, the Kane Queensland social housing apartments project located at 13-17 Todds Road, Lawnton, was awarded the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) 2022 Award for Excellence in the Affordable Housing category.
The project consists of 27 social housing apartments, 15 one-bedroom and 12-two bedroom apartments, split over four levels across two buildings.
KO&Co Architecture designed the apartments to improve quality of living for all residents. The units were constructed to be flexible, adaptable, and highly accessible for all and throughout the design development, Kane was able to design and workshop some challenging details to ensure the construction was simple and cost effective; whilst also maintaining the client’s design intent.
The Kane team worked to prevent delays through innovatively delivering a prototype of each room to the Department early, which assisted with joinery locations and ensured client satisfaction.
Launched in 1994, The UDIA’s Award for Excellence is a highly regarded and respected industry award program introduced to highlight excellence and innovation in Queensland.
We would like to congratulate the Department of Communities, Housing, and Digital Economy and KO&Co Architecture on this wonderful achievement.
