Kane Constructions Northcote Aquatic & Recreation Centre project recently hosted two work experience students on their placement through our Consider Construction program. Consider Construction is a part of Kane’s wider strategy to increase diversity within the construction industry. The purpose of this campaign is to expose the next generation of diverse individuals to the possibilities of a career in construction.
Kane team members, Kelsey Icardi and Lindsay Rattray delivered a presentation at Santa Maria College in Northcote to students about the various pathways and opportunities in the construction industry. Following this presentation, Year 10 students Ingrid and Ava applied to the Consider Construction Work Experience program and completed their placement with Kane.
During their placement, Ingrid and Ava were able to experience what is involved in a range of roles; from the different kinds of consultants to the trades on-site. They learned how to read project plans, got involved in the weekly Safety Walk and dipped their toes into understanding Green Star requirements.
Both being residents of Darebin, Ingrid and Ava were already familiar with the Northcote Aquatic Centre project and enjoyed the behind-the-scene look at what the centre will look like before doors open to the community.
