We were honoured to welcome His Majesty King Charles III to our Cowper Street Development project on Tuesday where he met three participants of the "Get Into Construction" programme and unveiled a commemorative plaque. His Majesty was joined by the Honourable Julie Bishop, Chair of The King’s Trust Australia; the Honourable Rose Jackson MLC, NSW Minister for Housing; the Honourable Chris Minns MP, Premier of NSW and the Honourable Anthony Albanese MP, Prime Minister of Australia.
The Cowper Street Development is a collaboration between the NSW State Government and The King's Trust Australia. The development is Australia's largest cross-laminated timber (CLT) social housing structure and comprises 75 apartments across two eight-storey towers and separate three-storey terrace. Designed to achieve a 6 Star Green Star rating, the project incorporates rooftop gardens, solar power, and innovative water retention systems.
"This development is representative of our commitment to sustainable construction and our passion for social infrastructure," said Tristan Forster, Joint Managing Director of Kane. "The visit by His Majesty acknowledges the project's significance in addressing both social housing and environmental sustainability in Sydney's inner west."
"Meeting His Majesty was an extraordinary honour for our team," said NSW General Manager Brett Moore. "His genuine enthusiasm for both our sustainable building practices and the Get Into Construction programme was inspiring.”
Get Into Construction is a four-week programme that helps young people gain a foothold in the thriving construction industry. Designed to address the growing demand for skilled labour in the construction sector while offering a pathway for young people to kickstart their careers, it is run in collaboration between the King’s Trust Australia, First Choice Apprentices and Kane Constructions.
