Kane NSW recently marked a significant milestone with the successful delivery and installation of critical infrastructure at the Global Switch Sydney Data Centre. This complex operation involved the deployment of a 450-tonne crane and 12 semi-trailers to transport and lift five UPS Module units, along with their associated control equipment, into the building.
The intricate process was executed over an intense 48-hour window, commencing Friday afternoon and concluding Sunday evening. The operation required full road closures throughout the Ultimo precinct, expertly managed by traffic control teams and supported by the NSW Police.
This achievement was the culmination of six weeks of meticulous planning. Kane Constructions worked closely with a range of stakeholders, including Global Switch Australia’s delivery and operations team, rigging and craneage teams, traffic control, services contractors, and the Kane project delivery team. The planning process was also bolstered by the integral support of Kane’s NSW Safety Manager and National Safety Systems Manager, ensuring that all high-risk safety requirements were meticulously addressed.
Anticipating potential challenges, Kane strategically adjusted the schedule, moving the operation forward by a week to avoid conflicts with other local projects. This proactive approach proved essential, particularly when unpredictable weather threatened to derail the operation. Despite a thunderstorm rolling in from Southern Sydney, the skies cleared just in time, providing a 48-hour window for the team to execute the plan flawlessly.
The successful installation not only highlights Kane’s commitment to safety and precision but also reinforces its reputation as a leader in complex infrastructure projects. This operation stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, careful planning, and expert execution. Both Global Switch Australia and Kane Constructions can celebrate this accomplishment as a resounding success.
