Kane Constructions has been awarded the Excellence in Construction for Commercial Refurbishment | Renovation 15M-$30M. The Queensland team at the 2024 Queensland Master Builders Awards for our outstanding work on Catherine's House at Mater Hill campus.
The project, which transformed the historic 100-year-old Mater Convent into Queensland's largest perinatal mental health facility, showcases exceptional craftsmanship in combining heritage preservation with modern healthcare requirements.
The facility now features ten mother and baby suites, including two high-dependency units and a special care unit, providing crucial mental health services for new mothers and their families.
The renovation carefully preserved the building's historic elements, including original stained-glass windows, terrazzo flooring, and ornate timber work, while seamlessly integrating contemporary clinical requirements for a Level Six mental health facility. The thoughtful design incorporates shared spaces that encourage community healing, including group dining areas, communal baby bathing facilities, and a secure outdoor courtyard.
