Australian War Memorial showcases Kane’s expertise in complex heritage construction

21st February, 2025

The completion of the new Main Entrance at the Australian War Memorial showcases Kane’s expertise in complex heritage construction, blending history with innovation. With the support of our in-house digital engineering, Kane achieved absolute precision in many elements of the project while maintaining a deep respect for Australia’s cultural legacy.

A standout achievement on the project is the 12-tonne glass oculus, crafted from individually designed glass petals imported from Spain. Kane’s team dedicated over 12 months to meticulous planning, executing the installation with millimetre precision. This sits along the meticulously planned exposed curved concrete soffit that supports the forecourt over.

Perhaps most impressive was the engineering challenge of excavating and underpinning exercise while keeping the memorial fully operational. This delicate operation required extraordinary planning to protect the structural integrity of the 83-year-old heritage-listed building.

This once-in-a-lifetime project highlights Kane’s ability to deliver with precision while preserving the integrity of one of Australia’s most significant cultural landmarks.

Congratulations to our Kane delivery team and all those involved!
