Kane Nicholson Joint Venture secures landmark Ballarat Major Events Precinct project

19th December, 2024

Kane Nicholson Joint Venture (KNJV) is proud to announce its appointment to deliver the transformative Ballarat Major Events Precinct project, a cornerstone initiative under the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program. This ambitious undertaking will enhance Ballarat’s standing as a premier destination for major sporting and entertainment events, while creating a lasting legacy for the region.

The centrepiece of the project is the design and construction of two new grandstands at Mars Stadium, providing 5,000 new permanent seats and increasing the venue’s seated capacity to 10,000. Alongside the expanded seating, the project will deliver new changerooms, public amenities, and retain the popular south-western standing area, ensuring an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

The upgrades extend well beyond Mars Stadium, encompassing the creation of the Ballarat Regional Athletics Centre at the former Ballarat Showgrounds site. This state-of-the-art facility will include an athletics track, a new pavilion, lighting and, a storage shed. Accessibility enhancements throughout the precinct will ensure equitable access for all visitors, with features such as accessible pathways and thoughtfully designed public spaces.

This project is being delivered by Development Victoria in partnership with Sport and Recreation Victoria, and has involved close collaboration with the City of Ballarat reflecting a shared vision to enhance the Ballarat Major Events Precinct. The new developments align with the city’s strategic goals, bringing to life a sustainable, world-class venue capable of hosting a diverse range of events. These improvements are not only set to benefit elite athletes and sports enthusiasts but also provide the local community with enhanced public spaces and recreational opportunities.

The site’s rich history will be honoured through this transformation. The new Ballarat Regional Athletics Centre will occupy the grounds previously home to the Ballarat Agricultural and Pastoral Society (BAPS). This development follows the City of Ballarat’s agreement with BAPS to relocate to a new site in Mt Rowan, enabling the precinct to evolve into a vibrant hub for sports and entertainment.

KNJV is excited to collaborate with all stakeholders to deliver this landmark project, which promises to invigorate the local economy, foster community pride, and position Ballarat as a beacon of regional excellence.
