The Argyle Stores Project is yet another magnificent example of Kane Constructions heritage and refurbishment skills. The project also showcases the mutual benefits derived from a commitment to building long-term relationships with clients and consultants.
Kane was awarded the $9m Design & Construct contract by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority in 2005. The brief was to develop the initial plans and layouts approximately 30% through design development - to full construction documentation. A major element of design development was the need to be sympathetic to the heritage fabric of the buildings and their interiors.
Works included a complete strip out of the existing building followed by installation of new lifts, escalators, amenities and services. In addition to the warm shell and fitout of the new retail spaces, Kane also completed the fitout for the new Sydney Visitors Centre retail space and administration offices.
The project team negotiated a further increase to the original scope that included external works to the adjacent Rocks Square with the erection of a new structural steel sunshade.
The project was completed within an extremely tight eight month program to ensure the centre could be opened in time for Christmas trading.
