The project was awarded to Kane in January with an anticipated start date of early February. However the devastating floods that occurred in
St George and surrounding regional towns, delayed the commencement of the project.
The project consisted of the extension and refurbishment of the existing Balonne Shire Council Civic Centre in St George, QLD. Kane began by demolishing the services and internal finishes while keeping only the structural elements remaining. The new extensive structural footing design allowed to accommodate for the extra load that was being placed upon the existing building. The extension and refurbishment gave the council more rooms to expand their current services and a revitalised board room, kitchen, bathrooms and office space allows the client to enjoy a comfortable working environment.
Not only did the building benefit the council members, it had positive effects on the whole community. This was achieved by hiring many local subcontractors and sourcing many of the materials from local suppliers.
