Kane were awarded this $12 million contract in early 2013 to develop the new offices and practice for the Church of Scientology.
The project involved the refurbishment and vertical expansion of an early twentieth century 5-level heritage building. As well as a full refurbishment of the existing building, a three level contemporary addition was constructed including commercial offices and others spaces.
The upgrade provided new lifts, building services, and wet areas as well as a new lobby to refresh the street presentation of the building and address accessibility issues.
Being located on busy Castlereagh Street in the heart of Sydney's CBD presented a number of challenges with regard to construction logistics. A small tower crane was positioned on the roof of the existing building and all deliveries were carefully coordinated to minimse disruption to the public.
Kane were engaged under a Design and Construct contract with all consultants being novated. Whilst the design was significantly advanced, substantial structural investigation works were required to ensure that the building could cope with the additional loads planned.
