Energex Substation - Kelvin Grove

The $7.4m substation construction works at Kelvin Grove were completed in late 2013.

The building includes two levels and a basement, which houses two transformers, switchgear, and control equipment. The substation will provide for future increase in power consumption in the Kelvin Grove area.

The works for the substation involved bored piers, cast insitu and precast concrete together with structural steel. The building also includes detailed metalwork, concrete beam and penetration arrangements required to accommodate Energy Queensland's equipment and associated cabling. The construction involved complex buildability challenges such as restricted site access, and works around live cables and equipment.
