Kane Constructions, in collaboration with the Department of Education and Donald Cant Watts Corke, successfully executed the Design and Construct project for a new General Learning Centre (GLC), Performing Arts Centre (PAC) expansion, and Trade Training Centre (TTC) at Glenala State High School in Durack.
The development included a three-story GLC with learning areas, studios, staff workrooms, student amenities, and provisions for future expansion, including a lift. The PAC refurbishment involved reconfiguration, while the TTC expansion included an engineering workshop, training room, maker space, staff room, and Head of Department office. The project required partial demolition and extensive civil and ground works.
A significant challenge was the sloping site, which restricted access. Kane resolved this by designing and building a new access road with a 7-meter-high sandstone boulder retaining wall, ensuring access for construction and future maintenance.
The project was divided into three phases: PAC, GLC, and TTC, with careful planning to ensure minimal disruption, including structural steel staging modifications and pre-loading of materials.
The project achieved Practical Completion in January 2024, marking a successful collaboration for all parties involved.
