In February 2019, Kane Constructions was engaged by the Department of Housing and Public Works under a Lump Sum contract to complete the demolition and refurbishment of the existing commercial hospital kitchen facilities.
The project works included:
- Coordination of temporary kitchen facilities (including decommissioning and removal of temporary facilities upon completion)
- Demolition of existing finishes and structure
- Installation of new cold room facilities
- Structural alterations
- Installation of new finishes
- State-of-the-art commercial kitchen equipment to suit the revised layout
The original building being almost 100 years old provided some challenging structural elements for the project. Kane worked through these challenges, alongside stakeholders, and implemented an innovative propping method to ensure the affected areas were secured to achieve the required support.
All of the works were undertaken within the confines of a highly sensitive and fully operational hospital environment. Careful planning and clear communication by the Kane Project Team ensured no disruption to hospital activities.
This project reached Practical Completion in late 2019.
