This $6m project involved the complete refurbishment of a run down corner hotel in the Melbourne bayside suburb of Brighton.
The project was delivered in 1995 under a lump sum contract and received an Award of Merit from the Australian Institute of Architects.
The design created a casual and contemporary venue with an emphasis on cafe-style dining. A number of interventions into the existing building fabric include the demolition of a single storey section along Church Street to make way for a large landscaped courtyard, while the rest of the interior was transformed into a diverse collection of spaces, designed to attract a variety of users throughout the day.
The works were completed over a seven month period.
