Kane Constructions has been awarded the $25 million Huntley Street Recreation Centre project in partnership with the City of Sydney. Located at 6-8 Huntley Street in Alexandria, the project will transform a 1980s tilt-up concrete warehouse into a modern, multi-purpose indoor sports and recreation facility, designed with a focus on accessibility and safety.
The redeveloped centre will feature four indoor multipurpose courts, accommodating a variety of sports including basketball, netball, futsal, volleyball, gymnastics, and badminton. The facility will also include outdoor practice courts, a dedicated fitness area, seating for spectators, a reception and administration area, change rooms, a kiosk, and a landscaped courtyard. A new canopy facade will enhance the building's aesthetic, while bike parking will encourage sustainable transport options.
Sustainability is a key element of the project’s design, incorporating rooftop solar panels, a rainwater collection system for onsite reuse, and a landscaped courtyard with planted trees to create a greener environment.
In addition, upgrades to the surrounding public areas will improve accessibility and promote active transport by connecting the centre to the nearby Shea's Creek cycleway.
This project is set to address the growing demand for indoor sports facilities in the region, offering a dynamic recreational hub that prioritises environmental sustainability and community integration.
