Completed in 2003, the Kyneton District Health Service is a multi-function health care facility located on the outskirts of Kyneton in regional Victoria. Delivered by fixed price lump sum after competitive, selected tender the $12m hospital services Kyneton and the surrounding region.
The new building replaces the existing Kyneton Hospital; a complex of outdated buildings dating from the 1850s through to the 1960s. In addition it unites the hospital with a number of health service functions currently dispersed through Kyneton.
The project was delivered on time and includes a wide range of services: Aged Care Residential (30 beds), Acute Care Wards (26 beds), Palliative Care, Birthing Suites, Dialysis, Allied Health, Diagnostic labs, Oncology, Operating Theatre, Day Procedures Unit, Emergency department, Ambulance base, Helipad, Community Outreach Service, District Nursing Service and Support Services associated with the listed functions.
The successful completion of the Kyneton District Health Service further reinforced the strong presence Kane Constructions enjoys in regional Victoria having also completed projects in Geelong, Bendigo, Nhill, Rochester, Maryborough and Morwell.
The cutting edge design won the Australian Institute of Architects Regional Prize in 2004 and is the tenth Lyons designed project completed by Kane.
