Kane Constructions was awarded the Lump Sum contract to deliver the Lives Lived Well Rehabilitation Facility located in Caboolture, Queensland.

Utilising the existing two storey backpackers accommodation building, as well as the neighbouring property; the scope of works incorporated a mixture of renovation works, new structural elements, new lift installation, and an open space recreational area for treating patients.

Designed by PDT Architects, the exterior includes extensive landscaping works, a roof extension to envelope the new outdoor breakout area, as well as an extension of the existing car park and bicycle bays.

Internally, the design for Level 1 utilises much of the existing backpacker accommodation layout to incorporate the new patient rooms for the facility.

Ground Level works heavily involved demolition and conversion of an existing undercroft car park into open plan social rooms, installation of a new patient lift, staff rooms and kitchen facilities.

The site is situated on a busy main road and site access and materials handling caused access constraints for the project team. Kane successfully implemented a traffic management solution to mitigate any disruption to works. This included daily delivery plans with the relevant subcontractors and suppliers to ensure minimal disruption to local traffic and construction activities alike.

Kane identified a difference in the operable wall subhead height. Kane worked closely with the operable door manufacturer and successfully designed and implemented a revised subhead support. This subhead support reduced the engineering of the original design and mitigated services coordination issues due to the restricted head height.

Kane worked closely with the client and implemented a staged Practical Completion handover of the facility. This strategy resulted in the client being able to move into the premises and commence staff training sooner, as required without disruption.
