DHS Altona involved the design and construct of 70 new social housing apartments on a brownfield site in the bayside Melbourne suburb of Altona.
Following a select tender, Kane Constructions was engaged by the Department of Human Services to commence works in May 2011. The incumbent design team comprising MGS Architects, Robert Bird Group and JBA Consulting Engineers were novated to Kane to complete the design.
The project comprised two four level buildings and extensive landscaping. Works were completed in mid 2012.
McIntyre Drive Social Housing was awarded the Frederick Romberg Award for Residential Architecture Multiple Housing at the Australian Institute of Architecture awards in 2013.
