This project located in Castlemaine in regional Victoria was delivered under a lump sum contract and involved the construction of a new 60 bed high care residential aged care facility.
Kane Constructions was appointed in 2006. The steeply sloping site presented a number of challenges. Works included a significant site cut and subsequent retention system to create a flat footprint for the new building and surrounding exterior spaces - critical to enable the aged residents to move freely.
The project was highly ESD focused with inslab heating/cooling, solar domestic hot water, rainwater harvesting and high efficient lighting control systems. The building was constructed using reverse brick veneer walls, which provides excellent thermal properties resulting in much reduced energy usage.
The $9 million project was completed in April 2007.
