Kane were engaged to construct the new Transit Lounge at Princess Alexandra Hospital, under a design and construct contract. The project, which was largely complete at tender stage, was prepared by architects Conrad Gargett Architecture and allowed for the new building to tie seamlessly into the existing building.
Construction of the Transit Lounge was largely under the existing and operational Emergency Department Mental Health building with a number of new entry ramps for improved access. The space houses the new Transit Care Hub, delivering 12 beds, 18 recliners and 6 chairs as well as incorporating the relocation of the Bed Management Unit and Nursing Resource Unit into the new office space area. A covered walkway links the existing hospital with the new facility.
There was also significant external waterproofing replacement works and construction of a new Comms Room at Basement level. The compressed fibre cement canopies and facade along with new planter boxes make the entrance to the lounge aesthetically pleasing.
