This $10 million lump contract involved the construction of a prestigious new clubhouse for the Sandringham Yacht Club (SYC) located on the foreshore of Port Phillip Bay in Melbourne.
The Richard Mabin designed clubhouse boasts the latest in amenities for members and their guests, including a training auditorium with meeting rooms, which will establish SYC as a leader in providing accredited courses in sail training, boat handling, marina operations and on-water activities.
Other amenities are the Port Phillip Room, incorporating a dance floor and stage, a Members Lounge, Members Bar, Olympic Room, outdoor areas for eating and socialising and the appropriately named Harbour View Restaurant, overlooking Sandringham Harbour and the SYC Marina.
Accommodation for club administration includes an efficient and enjoyable work environment, with a separate marina and boating office to accommodate the bookings and administrative requirements of racing participants, boat yard bookings and the needs of the various tenants on-site.
Kane was awarded the contract in early 2008 with works being completed within an 18 month program finishing in August 2009. The new 2,700m2 building was constructed on the car park adjacent to the former clubhouse - closer to the water’s edge. The three level structure was built using precast concrete lift cores, post tensioned concrete suspended slabs along with structural steel for the elaborately shaped roof elements.
The façade includes floor to ceiling high performance glass to take advantage of the spectacular views along with composite panelling. All materials were carefully specified to meet the harsh marine environment.
Successful completion of the Sandringham Yacht Club adds to Kane Constructions strong track record in the sports and leisure sector. Other projects include the RACV Torquay Resort $115 million, the RACV Cobram Resort $5 million, the RACV City Club $12 million, Tabcorp Park $33 million, Bob Jane Stadium $5 million, Simonds Stadium Reg Hickey Stand $25 million, Simonds Stadium Southern Stand $32 million and the Westpac Centre for the Collingwood Football Club $12 million.
