The St John of God Hospital Geelong CSSD Expansion was constructed on the old West Wing Building with the new facility interfacing with the existing hospital development at Levels 3, 4 and 5. The refurbishment of the existing CSSD was completed over two stages.
Stage 1 delivered two additional floors, installation of state of the art washing and sterilising equipment, new air handling plant, reverse osmosis plant and the extension of the hospital birthing suites.
Stage 2 consisted of demolition and decanting. Works were delivered 2.5 months early under a Lump Sum contract in a live hospital with access and business functions remaining fully operational.
The scope of works associated with the project included:
- Two level vertical expansion over the existing cardiac care ward
- Construction of a new expansion zone on Level 4 to be fit-out as the sterile area for the new CSSD
- Expansion and refurbishment of the existing scopes room for Endoscopy Sterilisation
- Construction of a new Level 3 cold shell (for future expansion)
- Construction of a new plant room on Level 5 for the CSSD
- Demolition of the existing external fire egress stair and reconstruction to extend to Level 4
The project was delivered in March 2021.
