Kane Constructions has successfully delivered the $139 million Main Works package at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Fitzroy, following earlier involvement through the early works package and delivery of the Maternity Ward Refurbishment .
The new 12-storey tower, constructed adjacent to the existing hospital, increases opportunities for shared research and clinical expertise with both St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and the forthcoming Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery (ACMD), Australia’s first hospital-based biomedical engineering research centre. The project also included delivery of the ACMD early works, completed in 2022.
The tower comprises two basement levels and a link bridge to the existing hospital, with extensive refurbishment works across five levels of the adjoining ten-storey hospital. Heritage restoration works were also carried out on the East Hill Hotel, East Hill House and Edensor House.
The development provides six new operating theatres, a Central Sterile Supply Department, 91 inpatient beds including Intensive Care and High Dependency Units, seven birthing suites with assessment rooms, a Special Care Nursery, recovery bays, consulting suites and a 14-chair day oncology unit.
All works were delivered within a live hospital environment, requiring careful planning and collaboration to ensure the continuity of critical healthcare services throughout construction.
