Kane were appointed in September 2016 under a Construction Management contract to deliver the University of Melbourne School of Engineering (MSE) Alterations.
The project scope included the following:
Engineering Workshop
- New link way corridor including demolition, structural upgrades to support new stair and glazed and metal screen partition
- New 3D metal print and CAREN ‘Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment’ rooms
- New lift
- New mechanical services throughout including specialist extraction and ventilation for workshop machinery
- New comms room including two new fibre connections to University network
- Localised demolition of internal walls, floor and roof
- New corridor/amenities area to level one including new roof and floor
- New fit out to student capstone spaces including student work spaces/meeting rooms, furniture and AV
Old Engineering School – North Wing Student Spaces
- Demolition of internal walls
- Student work spaces and meeting rooms including furniture and AV
- New steel structure supporting the removal of load bearing walls
- Structural stability works (earthquake mitigation)
- Expanded existing central mechanical plant
- New fire sprinklers throughout
Old Engineering School
- Upgraded central courtyard
- Upgraded caretakers courtyard
- Upgraded formula SAE garage
This project reached Practical Completion in the third quarter of 2017.
