Kane Constructions was awarded the $55M Design & Construct contract to deliver the University of Melbourne's state-of-the-art Werribee Campus in the third quarter of 2017.
The University of Melbourne's Werribee Campus contains vital infrastructure for the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences (FVAS) activities, including a Veterinary Hospital, an Equine Centre, various animal research facilities, teaching facilities and student accommodation.
FVAS have global accreditation for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program, enabling their DVM graduates to practice around the world. This accreditation is highly regarded and critical to the ongoing sustainability of the program.
The scope consisted of the redevelopment of the existing U-Vet Werribee Animal Hospital facilities to enhance experience for pets and the resources for clients. Learning and teaching facilities have been transformed with a new five-storey building for veterinary preclinical and clinical skills training.
The redevelopment includes a new hospital entry, a café, landscaped gardens, increased parking for clients and visitors, and improved accessibility to link all areas of the campus.
The redevelopment will meet the University’s sustainability targets, bringing the refurbished hospital to a 4 Star equivalent Green Star rating and the new building to a 6 Star Green Star ‘As Built’ Certification.
